The Silay Institute Library plays a vital role in education of the students and is the center of the academic life of the school. Next to the teachers and textbooks, the school library if properly utilized, is the most valuable source of knowledge for the students or for anybody else for that matter.

Silay Institute Library provides quality resources and services to its users, as well as strengthens the most dynamic learning environment in the school community and gives support to the school curriculum.
Library Goals and Objectives
The library is the “heart” of the school and plays an important role in the education of the students. Next to the teacher and the textbooks, the school library, if properly utilized, is the most valuable source of knowledge for the students or for anybody else for that matter. In order to fulfill these goals, the library commits itself to:
- Provide up-to-date reference materials such as books, non-books and non-print materials to the students and teachers in order to acquire more knowledge;
- Provide the students and teachers an atmosphere conducive to reading and learning; and
- Provide opportunity for the students to do research online using the computer in the library for this purpose.
Hours of Service
The library is open every school day with the following schedule:
Monday thru Friday
7:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon
1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The library collections include books, magazines, newspapers, maps and clippings.

Library Policies
- Return books after use and within the prescribed period so that other readers may use them.
- Sleeping, eating, talking, laughing or doing industrial work are prohibited.
- Observe proper behavior in the library at all times. Talk softly so as not to disturb other students who are studying.
- Take every possible care of each book, magazine and other library materials while they are in you possession.
- Honesty should be practiced at all times. A student caught stealing books, tearing out a page or pages of a book or other library properties will lose his library privileges. He will have to abide by whatever sanctions the librarian and the Discipline Officer will impose upon him.
- Keep the library clean.
- Push the chair back against the table after using without dragging them.
- Leave bags, coats, jackets and big envelopes at the deposit counter. Wallets and other valuables such as cell phones must be brought along with you. The library staff will not be liable for any losses.
- All students must apply for library card to enjoy the borrowing privileges.
- To apply for library card, student must submit one 1’’x 1’’ I.D. photo.
- A lost library card is replaced as soon as the student has applied for replacement. A fine of P20.00 is imposed.
- Library cards are non-transferable. Any student who lends his/her library card or borrows somebody’s card is subject to suspension of library privileges in which case both will be answerable for this violation.
- Circulation of Library Materials
- High School students from first year to fourth year are allowed to check out books from the library.
- General Reference books like encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, newspapers, magazines and other periodicals are read only in the library and are not allowed for circulation.
- Maps, Charts and other visual aid materials can be borrowed by the teachers for classroom use only.
- Home reading or fiction books can be borrowed for one (1) week and can be renewed for another week.
- Students are allowed to borrow two (2) books at a time.
- Books for overnight use should be out of the library starting 4:00-5:00 p.m. and can be returned at 7:30-8:00 a.m. the following day.
- Books borrowed on Friday should be returned on the following Monday.
A daily fine of P1.00 is imposed on every book kept overdue. (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are not included)
- When the book is lost, the borrower should report it immediately to the librarian so that fines will not accumulate. Students who have overdue books cannot check out book(s) until they clear their records. Otherwise, a student should replace the same book with the same title.
- A book damaged beyond repair must be replaced with the latest edition of the same title and author.
- Before leaving the counter, borrowers are encouraged to carefully inspect the book(s). They are to report to the librarian immediately any damage that they discover. The last borrower will be held responsible for any damage to the books.
- The student must present his/her library card to the one in-charge at the counter.
- The person in-charge will write the complete name of the borrower in the book card.
- A date due will be stamped at the date due slip found at the back of every book.
Sections and Services
Circulation Section- plays a very important function in the library. Books and other library materials are first recorded in this section before bringing them out of the library. It is also in the same place where borrowed materials are returned.

Control Desk- serves as a check point. Readers and users of the library should voluntarily present their personal belongings and other materials to the librarian before leaving the library.

Reference Section- contains rich and varied reference materials such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, yearbooks, annuals, atlases, etc.
Periodical Section- supplements the book collections. Included are magazines, journals and other forms of serial publications available locally and abroad through subscriptions. Copies of daily newspapers are also available.

Information File- is a collection of pamphlets, clippings dealing with subjects of current interest. To facilitate the use of the resources, arrangement is done alphabetically and a guide is provided.

Filipiniana Section- gives a feeling of pride as a Filipino. One may browse on the pages of Filipiniana books be it in culture, literature, history, etc. written by Filipino or foreign authors.

Faculty Section- an area allotted for the teachers and other members of the academic community.
